How do I measure my vertical jump?
Two ways. The measured method subtracts your standing reach (how high you touch flat-footed) from your maximum touch height when you jump. The hang-time method uses the time you spend airborne — the calculator converts it to jump height with the physics formula h = g·t²/8, where g is 9.81 m/s².
What is a good vertical jump?
For adult recreational players, 16–20 inches is average, 24–28 inches is strong, and anything above 30 inches is excellent. Elite NBA athletes often exceed 35–40 inches on a max approach jump. Use the number here to set a baseline and track progress.
How is peak power estimated?
We use the Sayers peak-power formula: Power (watts) = 60.7 × jump height in cm + 45.3 × body mass in kg − 2055. It's a validated regression for estimating lower-body explosive power from a countermovement jump. Enter your body mass to see it.
Which method is more accurate?
The measured method (reach and touch) is the most reliable when you have a marked wall or a vane device. Hang time is convenient but sensitive to timing error — a few hundredths of a second changes the result noticeably — so treat it as an approximation.
